Existential Psychological Therapy
Many people are unaware of the different types of psychotherapy. For any psychological issue, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is frequently recommended by medical professionals. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is recommended because it is widely known for its effectiveness in treating psychological problems. When a client comes to a professional psychologist, the psychologist will understand his problem and suggest a type of psychotherapy that will help him overcome that problem. If he is experienced in that therapy, he will tell the client how many sittings his therapy will require, how long it will take, and the details of his professional fees. If the client cannot provide the therapy related to his problem, he will tell the details of the psychologist who will provide that particular therapy. It should be noted here that not every psychologist can provide all types of therapies such as a panacea. Professional psychologists can confidently assert that I do not address issues that they do not. The only therapy that I give prominently is ‘Existential Therapy’. This therapy is very rare. Not only in India but also in the West, there is very little awareness of Existential Therapy. There are many reasons for that. In countries like India, which has an ancient culture, choosing Existential Therapy as a psychotherapy is like a knife on a knife. It is not that easy even in the West. India makes things even more difficult. Here people compare #Existentialism with many other philosophies and decide on it in a pinch. Or they read some English novels or books by some writers who are circulating as existentialists and decide that this is existentialism. Many of those writers do not want to be identified as existentialists.
EXISTENTIALISM |Existential Psychological Therapy
My therapy usually has 3 levels. The first level analyzes the entire client’s problem and builds a platform by explaining the proposition for the topics to be discussed from the second level. In the second level, by directly connecting and discussing the client’s problem, a change in the client’s attitude is possible, thereby changing his emotions and behavior. In the third level, many things are discussed in an existential context. All of this together takes 15 to 20 sessions depending on the client’s age and mental condition. It can take up to 30 sessions for some. It can also take 3 to 6 months. Knowing this, the client drops out in the beginning. The reason is that their problem needs a solution by the second day. The doctor says that if I pay 500 rupees, it will go away if I give him medicine. If I think that it is necessary to go through all this trouble, the second level thinks that I am a slightly expensive psychologist. Should I pay him so much money for so many sessions?
Existential Psychological Therapy | Some people drop out after one or two sessions saying, “Oh, he’s just telling me something without giving me a solution to the problem.” Those who go beyond the first level and move on to the second level not only get rid of their problem completely but also show interest in taking it up at the third level. In fact, the third level is optional. But no one drops counseling at that level. The frequency of third level counseling sessions decreases. But the number of sessions depends on the client’s interest. They book my slots whenever they are available. Some people book their sessions months in advance.
