We have been hearing about Dutch parenting on social media lately.
The Dutch are also among those who came to govern our Indian state. This Dutch parenting is popular all over the world.
Why not this Indian parenting? The family system in India is all linked to authority. Teachers, parents, political leaders, and Swamijis—they all give an authority. They know more; they say that we should follow what they say, and they are an authority.
If we listen to what that authority says, good will happen to us.
Matrudevobhav and Pitrudevobhav in Indian parenting”Gurudev Bhava” means don’t question the Guru. They will go away silently because of questioning.
Whoever opposes the Guru’s parents, opposing them does not mean fighting but questioning and reasoning. Such people are the ones who will be useful to this society for future generations. In India, most parents become teachers, mentors, motivational speakers, and Swamijis for their children, but they are not able to become parents.
Due to this authoritative parenting, children become cunning or suffer from anxiety disorders.
Let me explain with a small example.A mother asked her seven-year-old daughter to bring a glass to the kitchen. The child accidentally dropped all the utensils in the kitchen. Then the mother scolded her severely. She was afraid that she could not do a single thing; that was it.
Another mother explained that she had accidentally fallen and explained how to do it.
A Dutch parent does not do this. They do not exercise authority over their children. They spend time with their children. They give them freedom and independence and raise them.
They talk to their children, discuss them, and show them nature. What happens here in India is that if you study first, you have to win in games. There are rules and regulations and conditions like this.
But in Dutch parenting, participation is important. They encourage you to participate in everything in studies and games.
Honesty is taught. What happens here in India is that when the debt collectors come, they tell you to lie and say that your father is not there. The same parents tell you not to lie again.
When your grandmother goes out of the house, they tell you to take out what is in the fridge and eat it. What have they learned? Even adults learn this kind of cunning.
Empathy, compassion, and how to live in harmony with nature are taught. So personality development takes place in them.
Do you understand What is Dutch parenting. What is Dutch parenting
