What is empty nest syndrome? How to overcome it.
Empty nest.
There are nests built by birds in villages. After the birds grow up, they leave the nest and go away. Thus, we refer to the bird’s nest as a symbol for empty nest syndrome.
This empty nest syndrome is more common in women. Depression occurs in the early 50s or late 40s. After all the children have left.
After a woman reaches that age, it is natural for all the children to either get married or settle in other areas for jobs or studies.
Earlier, it was not like this; education was very limited. It was great to study up to the tenth standard. They used to do farming and business in the same village. They used to be joint families.
Since the birth of children, the mother has had a lot of attachment. From the moment they wake up in the morning, she provides them with coffee and tea and makes them tiffin. Sends them to school, prepares them for exams.
After some time, when the children go to another place, she suddenly feels an emptiness. A gap forms in her mind.
And when women enter their 50s, menopause occurs.
The menstrual cycle decreases, and the hormones in the body become unbalanced. One is the children leaving, and the second is the biological changes that occur in the body.
They shout in anger.
And what is the third thing? In most cases, parents or in-laws or one of these four people is in bed. She has the responsibility of taking care of them.
There are many people on that bed. They are bothering them a lot, saying, “Can’t you control these children? Your daughter is dressed like that; what is this?”
And the fourth thing is that the husband has also reached retirement age. Since he is at home, he may be pointing out everything and harassing his wife a bit.
Due to these and other reasons, she becomes depressed and anxious.
Also, some health will be damaged for them.
What is the solution to this? Life will never be as we expected.
This life will be new to us now. Life was not as expected when we were in tenth class. Life after intermediate and B.Tech will not be as expected.
Some of that new thing will be favorable for us, and some will be against us. We should minimize the unfavorable things and maximize the favorable things and move forward.
There is a need to adapt to that change.
There is a need to get used to new hobbies. Going for a walk in the morning and doing some courses. There are things like this. And if you have enough money for some problems, you can get rid of some of them with some money.
