EXISTENTIALISM FEAR ABSURD What is in the dark?
Radhika is studying B.Tech in her third year. But she still does bedwetting. She has seen many doctors. She has used medicines. But it has not subsided. Radhika wanted to go to America and do MS after completing B.Tech. But her going there without stopping bedwetting is a very embarrassing situation. Radhika, who was active in many things, never left home and went to another place. If she had to stay somewhere else at night, she would have had trouble due to bedwetting.
There are many possible reasons for any problem. It cannot be said that a particular problem arises due to only a particular reason. If one person has one reason, another may have another reason for the same problem. That is why it is very important to analyze the problem rationally. We have to know the roots of the problem and find a solution to it. Apart from that, relying on medicines for everything is very dangerous.
Since taking medicines is a very easy task, a person mostly relies on medicines to get rid of the problem. There is no need to get up early in the morning and do physical work to use medicines. There is no need to concentrate one’s mind and analyze or study anything. Since there is no need to do anything in a systematic manner, a person resorts to medicines. But the side effects of medicines are not properly assessed.
When a person goes to a doctor with a problem, the doctor does not analyze other causes. The reason is that the doctor does not need that. If the problem is due to other reasons, the patient does not have the opportunity to come to the doctor, so the doctor immediately prescribes medicines. After going to the doctor, no matter what the problem is, the doctor finds a solution through medicines for almost everyone and does not send him back. Only after using medicines for some time does he start analyzing whether there are other causes. Only a few senior doctors send patients who come to them back, saying that it is not related to medicines. The patient also immediately resorts to another doctor. That is a different matter.
There are many reasons for bedwetting. Some of them are physical reasons. These are dealt with by doctors. Some are psychological reasons. Some of the psychological reasons are internal, while others are external. For a girl, the reason for bedwetting may be that a large family lives in a house with only one washroom, and the washroom is not maintained properly, causing a bad odor. For another, the washroom may be far away. There are many external reasons.
In this case, the reason for Radhika’s bedwetting is internal psychological. She is afraid of the dark. She imagines many unknown scary forms in the dark. Many stories were told by her grandmother when she was young. Horror movies she saw, fears instilled by her parents and teachers. When she was in LKG, the teacher used to threaten her that she would be put in a dark room. When her grandmother used to feed her, she would point to the darkness and say, “Here comes the cat” and “Here comes the bird.” She would threaten that if you don’t eat, you will go up in the sky. Her parents also used to scare her by saying, “Don’t go in the dark; there will be these, and there will be these.”
What is in the dark? What is there in the dark? There is nothing special in the dark. The same things are there when there is light. But we cannot see them. But a person feels that there is danger in the dark due to his mental state. This varies from person to person. People who have developed such fears can be brought out through counseling. # Gestalt therapy is used specifically to bring them out of these problems. # Existential therapy is also very useful to bring them out of this problem. Existential therapy was used to get rid of Radhika’s bedwetting problem.
